Gilbert and George

Gilbert and George met in 1967 when they were both studying sculpture at St Martin’s School of Art in London and an extraordinary artistic partnership was formed. They became renowned for creating art work which explores all elements of modern society including death, religion, sex, race and national identity and have become internationally recognized for their bold and honest vision of the world. They were awarded the Turner Prize in 1986, represented Britain at the Venice Biennale in 2005, and went on to hold the largest retrospective of any artist at the Tate Modern in 2007.
