Yassine Mekhnache - Yaze

Born in Lyon in 1979, YAZE is one of France’s best-known young painters. He developed his instinctive, emotive style on the streets of Lyon, soon making the leap into fine art and some of Europe’s most admired galleries and collections.
The large scale of his pieces and freedom of his technique have led to comparisons with Cy Twombly, while his trademark abstract self-portraits evoke Georg Baselitz. His extraordinary methods, however, lead to uniquely haunting pieces, charged with feeling. Channelling his emotion into his output, YAZE works in an extraordinary way – literally transferring the force of his inner thoughts onto a surface through graceful, continuous movement.
Most recently, YAZE worked alongside nine other artists to transform Marrakesh’s Crystal Ballroom into a gallery for the first Marrakesh Art Fair.
Artorial will present his first solo show, early in 2011.
